The Big Spread

In February of 1999 I was featured in Four Wheeler Magazine. I was at the October 98 ASA4WD Jamboree in Florence Jct. AZ. One of the mornings we were messing around on the RTI ramp and the photographer for Four Wheeler came over and asked if I would go on the Axle Alley run so he could take some photos and do a full feature on it. No one had done a rock buggy with in cab adjusted air shocks before.
The sun was getting low on the horizon and the shadows were growing quite long when we finally reached the last waterfall. I had only been out a handful of times in this new buggy, so I was quite nervous. And to top it off, a crowd had collected to watch the carnage. After what must have been fifty attempts, I finally got my front wheels over the ledge at the top.....but just couldn't get the rear to climb. I worked it and worked it and managed to get both front tires and the left rear tire up over the top, but that right rear just wouldn't climb. Eventually, I got the bright idea to dump the air out of the left front air shock, then force the right rear up into the fender well by pumping air into the bottom of the shock. At this point the right rear was completely clear of the ledge and I simply drove on three tires over the top.
